“You're just like, going, oh, that's a bit embarrassing. The good thing we've got the one on the other side.”
“Good thing that no one pays too much attention to the judges, I could tell you. Thank God for that.”
“People like Martine George who was Lauren Mitchell's coach, for example, when she won her World Championships gold medal, was actually an excellent judge.”
“I started out as a software engineer, as a professional nerd, and now I think of myself as being a Nerd Herder. I'm responsible for lots of engineering teams here at Computershare.”
“What we are looking for is how nice and straight their body is and how pointed their feet are, how well they present themselves. And then obviously, the number of twists and saltos. That's the important bits.”
“It sounds really kind of cliché, but back yourself. You've done your numbers, you've done your routine, you need to need to back yourself now and come out and perform.”
“I was the four year old who was climbing the clothesline, that kind of thing. And gymnastics was the way of trying to burn that energy.”
“My mum and my sister in particular have been very supportive of me and I guess the mischief that I've been up to… There's lots of people who've been really supportive of me starting and stepping into that international level of judging. Jane Collins is a really big one, she was the judging coordinator in WA at the time and went on to a few other things. Helen Colagiuri is another really big one as well, she was the GA [Gymnastics Australia] Technical Director for a really long time, and again, still really supportive and somebody that I'll go to if I have questions.”
